PRIMITIVE ACCUMULATION
EXPROPRIATION OF LAND IN A CONTEMPORARY VIEW
Abstract
This article brings reflections on the process of land expropriation, revealing its expressions and societal perspectives, in particular regarding the situation of Brazilian peasant population in contemporary times. It is understood that, currently, accumulation through expropriation, materialized in the proliferation of “land enclosures” and in the privatization of public goods, has been characterized as the current form of primitive accumulation. The study has an exploratory and investigative character, using the literature review as a research source. It is recognized that, although there is the hegemony of capitalist social reproduction, with the expropriation of land being one of the several ways to occur in the evolution of the capitalist system, struggles and movements of social resistance coexist in this dynamic.
