SEXUAL IMPORTUNATION IN THE COLLECTIVE TRANSPORT OF PELOTAS - RS
Abstract
In this text we present data on sexual harassment against women in public transportation in the municipality of Pelotas-RS. This is a research coordinated by the Interdisciplinary Group of Criminal Works and Studies – Penitentiaries, from Post-Graduate Program in Social Policy and Human Rights of the Catholic University from Pelotas, entitled “Research on Victimization of Harassment and Sexual Violence”. The methodology is quantitative and uses a structured questionnaire. The theoretical framework prioritizes two categories: gender and violence. With the analyzes carried out, it was found that the municipality is over the Brazilian average in relation to sexual harassment in public transport. Still, it observes that silence is present, since 70% of the victims did nothing, because they believed that nothing would be resolved, even with the complaint. It is noted that the city presents a serious scenario, characterized by the rooting and naturalization of sexual violence against women in public transportation. The contributory perspective of the analysis is to foster the debate on violence against women and to visualize sexual harassment as such it, in addition to seeking to make the Pelotense reality more visible.
