PROFILE OF LATO SENSU COURSES IN SOCIOLOGY IN BRAZIL
AN EXPLORATORY QUANTITATIVE STUDY
Abstract
This article proposes an exploratory investigation of the profile of lato sensu postgraduate courses in Sociology in Brazil, with the aim of seeking regularities about the offer, distribution and organization of this modality in the country. In this way, we carried out a study with a quantitative approach, with the analysis of the cases collected from the theoretical perspective of a professional sociology. Based on some variables (Region, State, Total number of Graduates, Institution, Type, Public/Private, Site and Curricular Grid), we proceeded to build a database, from which an analysis by descriptive statistics originated. The results showed that the profile of this course is configured by the distance learning modality, being offered, surprisingly, by private institutions and with the minimum duration coinciding with that provided by law. Its curriculum grids indicated an approximation of the proposed content with the concept of professional sociology insofar as the contents focus on issues related to citizenship, which brings them closer to the interests of the Third Sector.
