Abstract

The ERICA Project emerged from the need to continue offering physical exercise programs to women who survived breast cancer who participated in the first research on “physical exercise and breast cancer” developed at the Escola Superior de Educação Física of Universidade Federal de Pelotas (ESEF/UFPel). The ERICA project has been serving the community of women survivors of breast cancer since 2017 with a combined physical exercise program (i.e., strength and aerobic exercises in the same session) on two non-consecutive days, held at the ESEF/UFPel. From May 2020 to December 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project took place remotely, with physical exercise sessions taught by undergraduate scholarship holders, by video call twice a week. In April 2022, the ERICA project started to return with its face-to-face activities at ESEF/UFPel. To date, we have had twenty two women enrolled in ERICA. Our ERICA extension project maintains the systematic and guided prescription of combined training to maintain the gains achieved in different physical and psychological parameters by the research projects carried out with “physical exercise and breast cancer” prior to the ERICA Project.
