THE PASSAGE OF SCHOOL-MASTERS TO PUBLIC TEACHERS
history of teacher`s formation on Imperial Court
Abstract
This paper investigates forms and strategies of teachers´ recruitment for elementary public schools in the period of Brazilian Imperial Court. It analyses legal requirements for teaching. The main goal is to apprehend the continuities, contradictions, and ruptures concerned to the professionalization of teaching force and the construction of educational science as a specialized knowledge, through the passage of teachers as craftwork to teacher as professional, between 1854 and 1880, when the model of Normal Schools was established as the privileged locus of Teacher Education.
