Abstract
This paper considers ideas from History, Sociology, Communication, and Education to explain the childhood concept. In these fields there are agreements on the rise of the childhood idea in Modernity, although they present divergence on theoretical approaches and concepts about childhood in the Contemporaneity. We establish relations with the implication of these childhood concepts in the training of teachers and in the researches on children and their cultures. We assert the need of approaching childhood as a plural category.
