Abstract

This article aims to analyze the teaching work in rural schools in the municipalities of Rio Claro-SP and Uberlândia-MG (1950 to 1980). We used, as a research source, interviews with eleven teachers, school notebooks and the laws that regulated teaching profession in both states to understand how the teachers entered rural schools, how they organize their work and how they were formed. We concluded that, despite the particularities in their training and career entry, both unprepared and certified teachers had to overcome the weaknesses of the schools installed in rural areas to teach their students.
