Abstract

The aim of this text is to identify the challenges of “being a teacher” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Testimonies of five teachers of basic education from schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro are analyzed. The text discusses the theme in dialogue with studies produced in this same context and that shed light on teaching in the pandemic context. The challenges pointed out by the teachers are configured by the astonishment at the unprecedented and the imperative of digital technologies; by the crossing of daily life by remote teaching; and by the reaffirmation of the fundamental elements of education.
