PSYCHOLOGY BEYOND THE GRIDS
REFLECTIONS ON WORK IN A JUVENILE DETENTION UNIT
Abstract
This article presents an internship experience in a detention unit for adolescents in conflict with the law, in the city of Teresina/PI. The task aimed to understand which competencies and abilities are necessary for professional practice of Psychology in socio-educational measures in detention units. The methodology used in this project was group workshops on several themes. From these meetings, issues such as human rights, perceptions of self and society, as well as future projects were debated. We conclude that adolescents who participated in this experience presented external situations, such as family and society, that influenced their behavior, as well as their worldviews and motivations for future perspectives. From then on, it is necessary to think of a psychological work that allows the re-signification of experiences, bringing back the protagonism that is rightfully theirs.
