THE POTENTIAL SPACE IS A SOCIAL SPACE

A DIALOGUE BETWEEN WINNICOTT AND BOURDIEU

Keywords: Transdisciplinarity, Psychoanalysis, Sociology, Symbolic space

Abstract

The present work seeks to dialogue the theoretical production of the English pediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Woods Winnicott with the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, structuring a common field from their respective theoretical-methodological proposals with a focus on the correlation between their concepts of potential space and social space. Starting from a brief summary of the main points of the works of both authors, the presente work seeks to build a view in which their respective epistemological approaches are no longer conflicting but become complementary in the analysis of the authors' writings, making it possible to complement the structural dynamics social and cultural with psychodynamic perspectives, and vice versa. Realizing the formulation of both spaces as constructs that come from the social structure in which the individual is inserted, which is presented and assured in the first instance by the family dynamics, the importance of decentralizing the analyzes of daily life and their respective affections of a structure is highlighted, not limiting itself to purely sociological or purely psychoanalytic analysis.
