A CRISE DA BILDUNG SEGUNDO WEBER E SIMMEL
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze how two pioneering sociologists, Max Weber (1864-1920) and Georg Simmel (1858-1918), dealt with the crisis of the ideal of Bildung, i.e., the formation of both the individual and the culture. For this I shall turn to the writings that deal more directly with the crisis on both science and modern culture. In Weber's case, I’ll work with five central concepts of his sociological work: inner-worldly asceticism, polytheism of values, disenchantment of the world, rationalization, specialization and vocation. As for Simmel, the central point of his approach is the culture, be it subjective, objective or the tragedy of the same in modernity. Finally I’ll compare the diagnostic and positions of both authors, follow the strong influence of Nietzsche on both and present my conclusions on this theme.
