Abstract

This article discusses some concepts of Gramsci – especially the idea of hegemony and the intellectual function – and his replay by Ianni, that thematizes it in the historic set of our time, in which mass media play a fundamental role in reproduction representations of political society, but at the same time, can serve to domination structures change, potential to be explored by progressive forces – especially in their struggles for the human rights realization – as a space of possible construction of a hegemonic discourse emancipatory. To this end, it attempts to reconstruct the evolutionary line that starts at the Prince of Maquiavel, through the modern prince of Gramsci and arrives at electronic prince of Ianni, alluding directly to the place of media as cultural agents, political and economic social dynamics present in contemporaneity. Finally, this paper argues the need of a leftist politics – a civil society significant fraction – consider the media as a space to be conquered within a perspective of war position, according to Gramsci’s meaning.
