Abstract

Through the approach of biography and criticism to biography, this article shows how to establish expressions for the formation of a competent speech and when the media (in this instance, the press) can reinforce the idea of seeking an authority both as a "specialized" representative opinion in a manner that constitutes a status of truth for the very journalistic text. Then, the paper seeks to understand how an author presents portions of his life stories - biography - in order to also be in authoritative voice on a particular theme, legitimizing their writings by their experiences. The theoretical discussion on the biography through the article as a way to understand the construction of the competent authority in the press as well as the limits of biography, as presented in the speech of the author Carlos Rodrigues Brandão.
