Abstract

The objective of this paper is to contribute to the debate of recent transformations of rural areas proposing a sociological explanation of the communicative actions of two ecological cooperatives: Ecovale and Sul Ecológica. The organization of production and marketing of organic agricultural products exclusively characterize these cooperatives. The article presents a descriptive qualitative approach of practices, from literature research and interviews with farmers, professionals and directors of the cooperatives. Initially, the text presents brief description of the socio-economic reality of the cooperatives. After, explains aspects of the Habermas’ theory of communicative action, theoretical study, conceptualizing civil society, public sphere, private sphere and life world. The following shows the analysis of empirical data from the field, focused on the communicative actions in the public sphere cooperative in the ways of sustainable rural development and in the context of family farming. In this part, the article lists as some relevant items about family farms and agricultural cooperatives, compared to programs Pronaf, PAA and PNAE. These items relate to the actions of social inclusion of part of the rural population, food production sustainably, without pesticides, and environmental protection, in the life world of family farmers, the communicative action.
