OFICINA ITINERANTE DE FÓSSEIS NAS ESCOLAS PÚBLICAS DO ENSINO BÁSICO DO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTARÉM – PA
Abstract
Science teaching is offered from the early years of elementary school, in which the student deve-
lops the ability to interpret and understand the world based on natural phenomena. Geology
and Paleontology are subjects that are not highlighted in Basic Education, being eventually
mentioned in the study of Natural Sciences. Thus, the present work aimed to popularize the
study of Geosciences in public schools in the city of Santarém - PA, from interactive workshops
in Basic Education classes. The execution of the presented work took place in the Laboratory
of Paleontology and Biostratigraphy of the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará, as well as in
the Diocesan School São Francisco. In an artisanal way, the students of the Geology course at
UFOPA made replicas of fossils, which were presented in an interactive and dynamic way at the
EDSF Biology Laboratory to teachers and high school students. The activities carried out were
directed to seventy high school students. The methodology proved to be efficient for stimulating
the ideas of participants, promoting learning and knowledge about the paleontological heritage.
At the end, the participants made comments and explained doubts, which contributed to reveal
a satisfactory result. From this extension action, it can be concluded that the itinerant fossils
workshop was an instrument of information and enrichment for future Biology classes, as well
as promoting awareness of the importance of bringing Geosciences to society.
