Abstract

The article focuses on critical curriculum theory, which is seen in crisis, not only in Brazil but also in the United States, due to the gap between theory and practice and to the excessive incorporation of new themes and categories. It reviews the emergence of critical curriculum discourse in Brazil and in the USA, the latter very influential on the former. It presents contributions derived from the dialogue between the "neos" and the "pos" and suggests that the insights from the new theories can be useful, provided that the focus on emancipation be preserved. It argues for the usefulness of critical curriculum theory, despite its crisis. Finally, it proposes that practice be the main concern of researchers and that studies on curriculum practice be developed.
