SCHOOL WORK AND TEACHERS’ WORK IN THE EDUCATIONAL DISCOURSES PUBLISHED IN NOVA ESCOLA, A JOURNAL
Abstract
This study problematizes the ways in which school work and teachers’ work, besides the elementary school teachers’ identity, have been shown in official discourses published by Nova Escola, a journal aimed at teachers, in the last decade of the twentieth century. From a Foucaultian perspective, this paper examines articles published in 14 issues of the journal, from 1994 to 2000. It shows that the official discourse has blamed teachers for the failure of education, and has said they will save school, reinforcing religious ethics that is in the genesis of being a teacher. Nowadays, the teacher is also shown as being more modern, more audacious, and very well connected with the globalized market.
