THE TEACHERS' POSITION IN THE ARGENTINE SOCIAL STRUCTURE
Abstract
Is there a process of proletarianization among teachers in Argentina? What features allow us to estimate its development? In this paper, I analyze some dimensions such as these workers’ weight in society, their level of earnings, the rate of unemployment among them, and their social background and wages regarding their degree of qualification, as indicators to determine the teachers’ position in the social structure in terms of their ownership towards their conditions of existence. Thus, I aim at approaching the proletarianization process and its level of development, especially among urban teachers. For this purpose, my sources are data collected in official censuses and other statistics, especially the ones from 2001, when the last census of the Argentine population was undertaken.
