Abstract

This article deals with the role performed by the teaching of the History of Biology in the teaching of Biological Sciences. Although I recognize the importance of teaching elements of the History of Sciences, I have noticed that the teaching of Sciences - and Biology - is still very concerned about teaching contents rather than being interested in constructing scientific knowledge. On the other hand, attempts to include elements of the History of Biology in the classes are usually mere repetition of names and dates; it means learning for the moment only, with the repetition of common mistakes, such as memorization techniques which do not consider any historical context. I propose that the teaching of Biology should appropriately approach events of the History of this subject. Thus, students can learn Biology more effectively, pleasantly, and enthusiastically.
