Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between education and poverty within the realm of the proclaimed educational directions for the new millennium. The exam of a number of reports relative to the successive international forums promoted under the auspices of the World Bank indicated that education is systematically referred to as the main tool to eradicate (or alleviate) poverty. At the same time, the nations facing hanger and poverty are urged by that Organization to launch reforms which put education in market’s domain, and diminish the scope of academic knowledge at all levels. It is thus concluded that the relationship presently laid down between education and the eradication of poverty operates as a mystification of objective reality, serving capital’s demands in the context of its structural crisis.
