NUANCES OF DISCRIMINATION IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN THE STATE OF PARANÁ
Abstract
This paper deals with the report of a survey on discrimination in daily life of a Public School in Ponta Grossa City, Paraná State. As a central theoretical foundation, Erving Goffman´s theories on stigma and social interactions which enable understanding on how discrimination is created, perpetuated and consolidated are used. The methodology chosen is one of a qualitative approach, using documental analysis as instruments for data collection. Data were collected in March 2014, based on the period from January 2012 to March 2014, it is possible to infer that the process of stigmatization and discrimination that occurs at schools among young people reflect the society in which they live, considering that the school is a social institution in a particular community in a social and historical context. However, these practices among the young ones keep nuances of a great impact once they do not have necessary life experience yet to develop social behaviors that enable them to live with differences without pointing it and rebelling, sometimes with violence.
