THE SELF-ASSESSMENT FOR SELF-REGULATION OF LEARNING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
notes
Abstract
Understanding that the acquisition of a language is a lifelong process and requires constant practice, it is necessary to encourage and promote the development of greater involvement in learning, motivating autonomous actions, with the intention of leading students to continue learning after school. After all, it is the decisions made by the individual that influence the results of his/her own learning. Therefore, selfassessment can be a strategic element to promote greater recognition and responsibility for learning. This essay aims at presenting important points about this tool as a viable option to awareness regarding one’s own language learning, leading to the possibility of remedial action planning and improvement by the student, promoting self-regulation of learning. For this reason, the study presents the concepts of self-assessment and analyzes its features, outlining the basis for its effectiveness in the development of self-regulatory skills. The main learning points of this study, regarding the role of the students, are: (a) awareness of the situation of their own learning, (b) participation in decision making about their own learning, (c) planning and implementation of strategies and (d) monitoring of the results.
