CHANGING AND HITTING BOBBIN: LIFE STORIES OF LACE-MAKERS IN CANAAN

Abstract

The article proposes as main objective to understand how the craftsmaship of bobbin lace implies the life stories of lace-makers women. In addition, as specific objectives we seek to identify how bobbin lace forms the identify of lace-makers women, as well as analyze the practice of bobbin lace as an element of resistance of a cultural tradition and also reflect on the life stories of lace-makers in historical contexts distinct. The research was happened in Canaan, a district located in the town of Trairi, in the State of Ceará. The research has a qualitative character, and for the methodological procedures a structured interview was carried out (GIL, 2008) that allowed the analysis of the datum. The research findings evidenced social transformation processes, cultural and economic transformation that cross the lives of lace-makers women. The role of lace-makers in Canaan demonstrates a family culture, collective and tradition culture, that represent the local history and the relationships of the lace-makers craft inherent to a social group that struggles for survival and resistance, marking their social identities.
