Abstract

Over time, industrial processes can undergo a series of transformations, either with technological advances or emergence of new practices. Thus, the industrial core and buildings that make up the industrial complex are subject to the process of obsolescence of certain uses and functions. This fact leads to the ruin or total loss of the assets that make up this ambience. In this sense, the goal of this work is to analyze the situation of abandonment of the ruins of Santa Thereza’s village, located in Bagé, in Rio Grande do Sul from the premise of the obsolescence of factory spaces and to present the importance of recognizing and safeguarding examples of industrial architecture, in line with contemporary reflections in the disciplinary field. In Santa Thereza, despite existing state and municipal legislation, there is a lack of effective preservation actions, which can be acquired with the involvement of communities in heritage processes.
