A MULTITEMPORAL VILA ITORORÓ

  • Eduardo Oliveira Soares

Abstract

Vila Itororó was inaugurated in 1922 and is located in the city of São Paulo. The architectural ensemble initially consisted of a mansion, rental houses and a swimming pool. Since 2013 it houses a Cultural Center. The current architectural configuration reveals the variety of uses and audiences over time; the urban changes of the city and the neighborhood; the oscillations between the profiles of the residents; and approaches on how to deal with the heritage of cities. These factors helped to forge, over a century, an architectural ensemble that mixes buildings already restored, works in progress and apparently abandoned structures. The article presents a textual and photographic narrative based on a visit carried out in 2022, in order to record attributes and perceptions of a heritage marked by the performance of time.
