Abstract

The article is divided in two distinct parts, although interrelated. In the beginning a retrospect of the Brazilian University teaching is made in the context of the western university and the Brazilian society. Finally, perspectives about the university of the 21st Century are drawn. With this paper we intend to review topics of the Brazilian university, presenting possible alternatives to saften and/or solve this problem.
