A EXCLUSÃO ESCAMOTEADA
reprovação das crianças negras
Abstract
A sample of 84 children born in Pelotas in 1982 was investigated in a follow-up study. The findings showed significant rates of school failure among black children. The risk of grade retention was 1.7 higher among black girls and 2.8 higher among black boys. Teachers’ perceptions about grade retention within the group of black children were investigated through an open-ended questionnaire. The analyses of psychosocial processes of teachers responses suggested a strong racial prejudice, which is denied, and appears in a hidden way.
