Abstract

The goal of this paper is to bring out the significant and highly qualified contribution of Ernani Maria Fiori to the work of Paulo Freire and to the Pedagogy of Liberation, seen as a wide political and pedagogical process in Brazil and Latin America. This contribution is not well known yet. In many chances, Freire himself, either in writing or in conferences and interviews has emphasized Fiori’s exceptional contribution. This study brings to light the main elements to the historical comprehension of the unparalleled partnership of Freire and Fiori, chiefly in Brazil and Chile. In addition, it seeks to characterize the main categories with which Fiori enriches – with extraordinary depth and a perspective of transforming action – the praxis both of liberating education and of popular education in general.
