Abstract
The present work aims at discussing inter-ethnic relations in schools, against the background of the social imaginary theory and centering on the black ethnic group. In the first part of the work, some of the motives that determine the choise related to the ethnic group and to the theorical background are presented. Some conceptions about social imaginary owe also pointed out. The elements considered relevant for the construction of the Brazilian social imaginary related to black people are brought out through a brief historical retrospective in the second part of the work. The last part reveals the reflex of this imaginary in education, cased on the words of “Primeiro Grau” pupils.
