CARTAS DE VIAGEM (UM EXAME DAS CARTAS DE PERO VAZ DE CAMINHA E DE MANOEL DA NÓBREGA)

Abstract

This essay intends to understand, from Cultural Studies perspective, how the discourses of Pero Vaz de Caminha's letter of "discoverer" of Brazil and priest Manoel da Nóbrega's first letter about native people who lived in the new Portuguese colony, construct non-European world's meanings and identities for the entity called Europe. At the same time, there is throughout the essay an intention to demonstrate how those discourses have been contributing to codification and legitimization of economic, political and cultural domination of Europe on the Latin American continent.
