Abstract
This study was developed at the Soccer class given to the Physical Education students of the Federal University at Pelotas (UFPel). Based on school soccer and how students relate to this cultural practice, there emerged an interest in investigating more closely the way it is dealt with at public school classes. Some of the goals of this present study are to diagnose the state of soccer at the city public schools, to illustrate its meaning within the students` cultural universe and to question the tactical and strategical action that cause it to be popular and form a basis to our culture.
