A ESCOLA E O DESAFIO DA CRÍTICA CULTURAL
Abstract
Taking into account the complex social, economic and cultural contexts in which Latin American countries are inserted, at the turn of the century, the paper discusses what can be considered the main challenge to school: to show the student that things can be different. It argues that this task demands the construction of a school committed with utopia, democracy and solidarity, not only in its interior but also in society. It also argues that this construction can be helped by teachers who rethink their roles as intellectuals and are involved in the process of cultural criticism which is indispensable nowadays.
