Abstract
The present paper approaches the construction of elementary public schools history, in Rio de Janeiro city, about 1870, and over there, the participation of the Associação Municipal Protetora da Infância Desvalida (1871), created by politics, teachers, doctors, lawyers and intellectuals from imperial Court, with the end to promove the elementary instruction and the education for the poor children from city. Themes how childood history, escolarship, assistance, education and instruction composes the pricipal preoccupations of this essay.
