DISCUTINDO A PRODUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES E DIFERENÇAS
Abstract
This work concerns two articles that analyze the processes through which individuals assume their identities, emphasizing the ethnic-cultural aspect. In the first one, José Heredia Moreno develops, autobiographically, his own process of acquisition of identity; in this case, his identity as a gypsy. In the second one, Márcia Ondina Vieira Ferreira, having in mind José Heredia’s narrative, evokes concepts that will allow the theoretical development of the discussion about both the production of identities and differences and the particularities of the gypsy culture and its interactions with the surrounding cultures. Both texts present school as being one of the places where the production of differences and identities consolidation occur. Language is considered a constructor element of reality, as it designates how things are / should be, from the point of view of who says something. Stereotypes used by racists are also present in the language, being used to justify the physical and / or moral harassment situations imposed on some groups.
