Abstract
The article is based in the Critical Geography presuppositions. It presents a methodological proposal for the teaching of geographical space and of the cartography in the elementary school. It is based in the perspective pointed by Jean Piaget, that the construction of the space relationship happens in two different plans: the perceptive or sensorial-motor, and the representative or intellectual plan. It defends a progressive teaching of the space notions and of the cartographic knowledge that takes into account these plans, where the teacher acts as intellectual, carrying out a social function, and the school is the democratic place of invigoration of the individuality (self) and of the social.
