Abstract

Postmodernism, a period of paradigmatic transition, presents itself as a period of tensions and perplexities. It is similar to the age when the Western Civilization passed through Renaissance to Modernity. It was in that period, in a context with characteristics all of its own, that the Schools, as we know today, emerged. The study of the roots of that emerging calls for the understanding of the social and cultural context in which all that occurred.
