THE JESUITS AND THE EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND OF BRAZILIAN PEOPLE

Abstract

This article tries to contribute for the research and the discussion on the educational task implanted during the colonial period in Brazil. Due to many reasons the responsibility for the education in the New World was initially granted to the Jesuit Order which for 210 years reigned absolutely in the educational and pedagogic field. Even that other catholic orders have also worked on education along that time, the organization, the estructure and the teaching system of the Jesuits prevailed. And, along with their customs and vision of world, became strong characteristics of the culture and society until present times.
