TEACHERS IN THE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AT RIO DE JANEIRO CITY BY THE END OF XIX CENTURY

Abstract
This present essay theme approaches the feminine status process of teaching, in the public elementary schools at Rio de Janeiro city, by the end of XIX century. Through a variety sources such as the official documents of the Imperial Ministry, of the literary writing, as well of the specialized history educational bibliography and the teaching staff professionalism, it is search to rebuild social customs aspects and the representation made by the elementary teachers about their actions into task. Yet, it is investigated the possible sources, the individual and social experiences lived by these women, whom became elementary teachers in that society, in order to contribute for the educational background studies about the historical feminine entrance process of women at the teaching staff profession.
