THE USE OF INTERVIEW, OBSERVATION AND VIDEO RECORDING IN QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Abstract
This paper is a literature review of the use of interviews, observation and video recording (filming) to collect data for a qualitative research, and gives details about how these three techniques were applied. We looked for papers with the terms “interview”, “observation”, “filming” and “data collection methods” available on line in the databases MEDLINE, LILACS and BIREME, from 1977 to 2005, and in the bibliographical catalog. After having analyzed the material, we concluded that the use of these three techniques, in a complementary manner, could guide the method researchers use for data collection.
