GAUCHISM LESSONS PRESENT IN TEXTBOOKS

Abstract

From the understanding that the textbook was e still is a basic element in classrooms in Brazil, the present article aiming to analyze a specific type of representation present in textbooks adopted in the Rio Grande do Sul State, which is, the representation of a gaucho identity. The study made some considerations concerning to the importance of analyze the textbooks for further to exam as the gaucho figure became relevant in this material after the 1950. The analysis performed is based on the books The Rio Grande do Sul History, of Fidélis Dalcin Barbosa, of 1983 and the Communication in national language, of J. Milton Benemann and Luís A. Cadore of 1974 and conclude that approach from both books diverge in some aspects the book The Rio Grande do Sul History is more attached to the traditional stereotype while the book Communication in national language welcome new representations.
