narratives about the forests
Abstract
This article analyses as the Amazon forest was narrate, in the early 20th century, on the travelling literature of Euclydes da Cunha, highlighting the pedagogical effects of such narratives. It is argued that animals which live in the forest at that time were discursively silenced. With this strategy was sought to break with a naturalist and foreign travel literature of the XIX century about the Amazon. This discursive operation intends to nationalize the forest, aiming the filling by Brazilians, your integration to the nation, your economical and social development. The analyses were processed under the inspiration of cultural studies, in their Latin-American versions. The article attempts in its conclusions promote questionings in the current field of environmental education.
