Abstract

This paper, which points out the aspects regarding the acquisition process of alphabetic writing and its relation to phonological acquisition, takes into account that phonemes and syllables are some of the fundamental units that can explain particularities of writing in a language. The study focuses on the behavior of segments and syllables in the Brazilian Portuguese (BP) system in the process of speech and writing acquisition by establishing relations among theoretical models in Phonology.
