ABBREVIATIONS ON THE INTERNET
graphic, phonetic-phonological and morphologic aspects on the coda syllabic register
Abstract
In this article, we aimed at analyzing the frequency of syllabic codas register in abbreviations on the internet and their possible relations with oral aspects of the language. We are based on the conception of writing heterogeneity (CORRÊA, 2004), on the phonological syllable notions (SELKIRK, 1982) and on the phonetic-acoustic characteristics of the segments on focus. Starting from a constituted corpus of on-line chats, we observed different percentages of nasal, semivowel, vibrant (related to phonetic-phonological factors) and fricative (related to morphology) registrations in the position of the syllabic coda. The analysis of the data shows that the writer, on the internet, is not just guided by oral aspects of the language, but also by aspects of literacy practices.
