THE LEARNING OF PUNCTUATION BY STUDENTS OF THE FIRST YEARS OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
an analysis based on the production of different textual genres
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze, in an exploratory perspective, the learning of punctuation in different textual genres. The 5th year Elementary Education (former 4th grade) students of a public municipal school in Recife participated in the research. The data was collected through three text production activities in which the students were requested to write a complaint letter, a fable and a news story. The results demonstrated that, generally, the punctuation used by the students was related to the characteristics of the textual genres that were produced.
