Abstract

This article discusses some of the results presented in the research “Constitution of teaching diseases”, developed between June 2007 and October 2009, which objective was to analyze the relationship between the work process and malaise teaching in public schools in the city of Pelotas/RS. The study was part quantitative; when it was used the statistical program SPSS 13.0 to analyze employment and health data of teachers. It also had a qualitative dimension when teachers who have taken health license during 2006-2007 were interviewed. Data were compared with both national and international literature. It is possible to conclude that working conditions and the way public power treats education contribute to increase health problems in this category. In addition, teachers carry an idealized image about meaning and significance of their work, representing the idea of sacrifice as a basic component of the profession. The effects of it are the dissemination of medicine usage by the category and increasing risks to each teacher health. Medication works pedagogically and administratively as another control mechanism over teaching work.
