INTERCULTURAL PHILOSOPHY FOR LIVING IN A DIVERSE AND INTERCONNECTED WORLD
Abstract
The essay provides a critical analysis of a postmodern concept of multiculturalism. As an alternative, it examines a concept of interculturality, which views the diverse cultures as dynamics and interrelated. Intercultural philosophy argues for dialogue among cultures and emphasizes the intercultural dialogue as a model for the relationship among the peoples, which is an alternative to the homogenizing globalization. At the heart of the analysis is a project of “the intercultural transformation of philosophy” developed by Raúl Fornet-Betancourt. He considers philosophy as culturally embedded. He argues for the plurality of philosophies and its forms of argumentation and grounding. This concept is applied to the Latin American philosophy. Intercultural philosophy explores the possibilities of the intercultural transformation of the reason, including in philosophy.
