Abstract

With the establishment of the Republic in Brazil in the late nineteenth century, numerous attempts have been undertaken in order to improve education in the country. By abolition of slavery and adoption, by the elites, for a model grounded in the bourgeois molds, the european "modern methods" for teaching gained a new guise in the tropics. In this context, comes the publication of Contos Infantis in 1886. Dedicated to childhood, this work now belongs to the school curricula from April 1891. However, a part of this didactic work was translated and adapted from a French literary publishing in mid-1860, for the public child indirectly. The purpose of this research is to understand the device Tales Children, other possibilities for the interpretation of this work within the field of education in Brazil.
