RELEVANT DIALOGS IN PRE-SERVICE AND IN-SERVICE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS
tThe conception of the Program of Pedagogic Residence from UNIFESP
Abstract
This article describes an experiment carried out at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) with the implementation of the Pedagogical Residency Program (PRP). The theoretical underpinning for its initial proposition was loosely based on the Pedagogy of Alternation, and produced a unique methodology for teacher education practice at Guarulhos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) public elementary schools. This new methodology challenges both educational settings—the university and public elementary schools—in several different aspects. The paper moves on to discuss the systemic aspect present in teachers’ practical issues as well as the indispensable strategic management of such education program, which calls for a combination of pre-service and in-service teacher education programs for both teachers and educational managers.
