TEACHER IDENTITIES IN MOTION IN THE CONTEXT OF TEACHERS' UNIONISM
foundation of the 24th CPERS OFFICE (Pelotas/Brazil)
Abstract
We aim here at reconstituting the foundation of the 24th CPERS OFFICE, based on two facts: the changes in teacher identities expressed when people join a class union; the action impact of some individuals with specific militancy experience. Concerning methodology, we used a qualitative strategy of investigation (data analysis and semi-structured interviews with Pro Office Commission members). We highlight the organization of the “pelotense” professorate during the dictatorship, under the direction of teachers with active participation in the 1979 strike. The first board opening enabled a perspective of class identity with more proletarian characteristics.
