Modeling Teachers in the Context of the New Public Management
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze current educational reform in Chile as a concrete expression of how New Public Management (NMP) is restructuring the field of public education. Through an analysis of the teacher evaluation and incentives policy, we exemppify new models of identity based on the notion that teachér´s work is constitutively individual, encoded in standards, teachers should be oriented to improvements in results, driven by individual economic incentives that use an entrepreneurial prototype for career development.
